Our team at fuze32 are marketing and branding junkies, and you better bet that while watching the most recent Batman film, we were taking mental notes on what lessons we could learn from this iconic hero/vigilante.
1. Our Story Makes Us Who We Are
For nearly all of our time on this planet, we’ve used the power of stories to share important information. Narratives are simply a part of our DNA. Batman himself has a compelling story. He has motives for his mission and for what he does, and his story fuels that. How did your business come to be? How does that shape your brand’s message now?
2. Study Your Competition
You know what they say, keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. There’s no doubt that we see Batman do just this by studying his competition in the form of researching his enemies like The Joker, The Riddler, and Two-Face. He is always doing his best to stay one step ahead of them in order to be more effective with his own efforts.
2. Know Your Audience
Gaining the attention of your target audience is the way to reach your brand objectives. And Batman has built his image up in a way that is meant to terrify his audience. Criminals, or to our last point, his competition, fear him because he has instilled this fear in them with his persona and branding. Don’t make your audience fear you, but your audience needs to identify that you are speaking to them. And that means that your branding message needs to be strong, engaging, and clear.
3. Know Your Strengths
There's no need to strive to be something you are not, or to try to be everything for everyone. So, if asked, be prepared to communicate what your brand’s strengths are. Batman doesn’t truly have any superpowers. But he uses the resources and skills he has to create his own brand of superhero and kick ass doing it. So find your strengths, and build on them to become unstoppable and unforgettable to your audience.
4. Value Your Team
Just like Batman, your business's brand needs to be built on a message that you and your staff can commit to, and deliver upon so that you can provide a quality customer experience. That means you and your team need to value and support each other in your efforts. Just like Alfred supports Bruce Wayne, and Robin is always there for Batman, it's important to stand a united front in growing and nurturing your brand and the marketing efforts you choose to invest in.
