As marketing professionals, we know there are many so-called experts out there who don't know what they are doing. Additionally, you may be tempted to let a family member or friend give your business marketing a whirl. How hard could it be, right? You might even save some money and be able to help out a friend. We urge you to proceed with caution because they may not understand how to create a true marketing strategy and properly execute it.
At fuze32, we cut through all the bulls%*! and tell you if your current strategy isn’t going to work. We want to find solutions not more problems. In the spirit of shining the light on all the malarky that plagues the industry, we have compiled the following six scenarios from our marketing experts that are commonplace in marketing. We will then tell you if they are bulls%*! or truth.
Six Scenarios in Marketing You Need to Recognize as Truth or Bulls%*!
1.) Scenario: “My cousin’s husband is good on Facebook, the ‘Gram’ and Twitter so we let him manage the social media page for our business.“
Bulls%*!: It’s very nice that your cousin’s husband is great on Facebook and other platforms and is willing to help you out with your social media image. However, do you know if he has a strategy for what he’s posting? Our guess is nope. He is probably using what we call the “post and pray method,” i.e. posting something and praying it gets some engagement.
2.) Scenario: “We realize that building a successful inbound marketing strategy requires consistency over time.”
Truth: That’s right. Ding, ding, ding we have a winner! A great inbound strategy takes time and doesn't happen overnight.
3.) Scenario: “We are already blogging, after all, we post every three months.”
Bulls%*!: We hate to be the bearer of a big dose of reality, but here it is, that’s not blogging. Chances are, you are missing out on a great chance to reach potential customers with your lack of consistent posting.
4.) Scenario: “We understand that Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is critical for the online traction of our business.”
Truth: Again, so true! SEO is an integral part of an online strategy. While the concept of SEO can become a bit complex, a great overview of the strategy is a way to improve your site by making it more visible in relevant searches. The how behind putting together an effective SEO strategy can get tricky but its importance cannot be overstated.
5.) Scenario: “Oh, we're doing digital, we have a Facebook page!”
Bulls%*!: Sorry, while Facebook is a part of the digital world and an overall social media strategy, having a Facebook page is a far cry from having an acceptable and effective digital presence.
6.) Scenario: “We know our website is the first impression most people have of our business. We want to make sure it’s well-designed, responsive and easy-to-navigate.”
Truth: Way to go, you took the words right out of our mouth. This is most certainly 100% true. If you have a great website, most site visitors will be impressed and spend more time on it than they otherwise would if it was difficult to navigate and poorly designed. Not to mention the headache of a page that is slow to load. We are not a patient society so this is a no, no. Most site visitors won’t wait more than 15 seconds before moving on.
Admittedly, there is a lot of BS to navigate in the marketing world. You can be sure, though, that when you work with us at fuze32, you won’t ever be sold a load of bull. Instead, we take care of your marketing so you can get back to what really matters, your business. If you’re tired of all the bulls%*!, we are here to listen. Let’s call it a first date and meet. Coffee is on us!
